Working in central London has been a great excuse for me to explore all that the city has to offer, from wandering down Brick Lane for a game at JunkYard Golf (I highly recommend) to grabbing something incredible from the food stalls in Borough Market, did someone say salt beef bagel?
So with so much to choose from (as I can say from personal experience) it can be almost impossible to decide where/what to do! So in order to aid your deliberations and because I’m a bit of a sucker for some street art I’ve whittled down my favourite Art orientated events on in London this month and next – they all involve a little wander around the city so you are bound to discover some hidden gems for yourself on the way
First up is a trail around the Shoreditch street art scene brought to you by HiddenCity. If you love a bit of friendly competition then look no further, the trail involves splitting in to teams and solving riddles which will take you on a journey through Shoreditch, stopping off at some quirky cocktail bars on the way. Don’t fret if your street art knowledge isn’t up to scratch as the trail is designed for art amateurs and at £25 per team, available Tuesday to Sunday, this is a killer day out! Find more details and alternative trails on their website
Following on with the street art theme comes the ‘Street (Art and Craft) Beer: Peckham Tour’ – an event by The London Brewery Tours. Starting at Peckham Rye Station the tour takes you to various street art works by big names such as ROA and Phlegm (just to name a few). Finishing at The Brick Brewery you’ll be welcomed by craft beer tasting, friendly staff and a chilled out vibe. You’ll come away understanding the inspiration behind Peckham’s best street art and a belly full of great beer, all for £10, what’s not to love? Buy tickets and find out more info about other upcoming tours on their website
I couldn’t write a blog about the art London is offering up without mentioning my favourite annual Art fair, The Frieze. I’ve been attending the fair for 4 years running and it never disappoints, believe me! Celebrating new and upcoming talent along with old-time favourites it’s a goldmine for all genres of Art. This year’s fair is taking place in its usual spot; Regent’s Park, from the 6-9th October. Expect to see neon pink walrus’s, hear talks from the curators and enjoy some great food. If you’re anything like me you’ll come away itching to paint and maybe even with a piece of art! For more information on tickets and to take a look at the 2017 Fair programme visit their website
And finally for something a little bit different, book tickets on Unseen Tours ‘The Shoreditch Tour – London’s Coolest Streets’. You will be guided through the neighbourhood, finding examples of Banksy and ROA on the way, while learning the trendy areas rich history of modern art and politics. All of this from the perspective of Henri, who sheds light on his personal experiences of homelessness in the streets of Shoreditch. With Henri as your guide you will discover hidden spots in Shoreditch only a local could find and even end up at a private Mafia bank!
