Augmented reality for chocoholics

Some news for those of you who are fans of augmented reality & those of you who are fans of chocolate.

Cadbury (Kraft) has revealed as part of its ongoing Olympics ‘spots & stripes’ activity its new smartphone app, created by Blippar.

Utilising augmented reality technology and a smartphone’s camera, the app opens up a game when pointed at participating Cadbury’s chocolate bars. You can watch how it works in the video above.

Despite the game looking, to my mind, distinctly average but surprisingly challenging given how difficult it appears to be to differentiate between which ducks are spotted and which are striped, I like the idea.

We at AatI HQ would like to see more augmented reality based games, particularly in a marketing context, but can we be a bit more imaginitive with the content and game play? Come on Cadbury… think EMO, drum playing gorilla.
