The Big Lunch is a very simple idea from the Eden Project. The aim is to get as many of the 61 million people in the UK as possible to have lunch with their neighbours once a year; it’s happening this year on Sunday 5 June 2011.
The event can be anything from a simple lunch in your garden to a huge street party. Nearly 1 million people took part last summer and Barbara Windsor has been supporting the venture this year as the Mayor of London’s official ‘Street Party Ambassador’.
Anyone can get involved & if you’d like to organise your own big lunch, you can find all the information on the website here: http://www.thebiglunch.com/index.php
I am going to a lunch park party this Saturday, hosted by someone who lives in my area and is encouraging her neighbours and people in the community to meet one another. Perhaps if people did meet and get to know other members of the local comunity, there would be less noise pollution and anti-social behaviour.
Or maybe the park will be full of people who I’d rather not know. Only time will tell…
